A commitment to fight breast cancer in Boston, and around the world

Cindy Callahan is a tireless walker, a successful Pacesetter, and a devoted Team Captain for the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. Her team of 21 raised $14,000 in 2014 alone, funding cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Cindy’s efforts began eight years ago. In 2007, she had a busy life, filled with family, friends, and work. Looking for an opportunity to integrate more exercise into her lifestyle, she signed up for a local three-day charity walk with a friend. Through this, she met Bridget Spence and heard her remarkable story. Bridget was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer at twenty-one. During her treatment at Dana-Farber, Bridget became an inspiration to many as she spoke at conferences, kept a blog, and brought a public face to a devastating disease. Touched by what she calls Bridget’s “amazing courage,” Cindy sought out opportunities to become more involved in the community and joined The Pink Angels, a local organization dedicated to raising funds to support cancer research and care for those affected by breast cancer.

Bridget passed away in 2013. Cindy was inspired to continue fundraising in her honor, and in memory of her own beloved aunt, who passed away in 2005 only six days after being diagnosed with lung cancer, as well as her mother, who passed away from colon cancer in 2010. That same year, Cindy helped to create a Pink Angels team for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, in honor of the spirited young woman who first inspired her.
This year, The Pink Angels’ Jimmy Fund Walk team will also walk in honor of Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk Hero Patti Boerner, a two-time cancer survivor. A selfless motivator, Cindy enjoys helping her teammates with training and fundraising tips and walks in preparation for the big event in September every Sunday.
Join us on September 27, 2015 and take steps to conquer cancer with more than 8,500 dedicated walkers at the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. Are you walking, or supporting a walker in this year’s Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk?
