#MyJokeForJimmy brings laughter and hope to cancer patients

No stranger to supporting the Jimmy Fund, 12-year-old Maxwell Surprenant sang in the Jimmy Fund Chorus in 2013. It was there that he met a pediatric patient from Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic that inspired him to become passionate about raising funds to support cancer research.

In 2014, he rallied his school together to raise more than $12,000 to support the Jimmy Fund through a basketball shootout competition. Now, Maxwell wants to build on that support and bring an end to cancer through #MyJokeForJimmy, a social media movement that aims to bring laughter and hope to cancer patients all while raising lifesaving funds to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

In honor of all those fighting cancer, Maxwell has motivated his community and individuals from all over New England to create a #MyJokeForJimmy video. Those that have already stepped up to the challenge include:

Boston Red Sox players, Brock Holt, Blake Aubry Swihart, and Deven Marrero had us ROTFL with their #MyJokeForJimmy videos.

Jimmy Fund Clinic patient, Joey, told a classic “knock, knock” joke while at the Jimmy Fund Clinic for treatment.

Our friends at WCVB TV/Channel 5, including Bill Fine, President and General Manager, and Emmy Award-winning journalist, Phil Lipof, took time to participate in #MyJokeForJimmy.

Here is #myjokeforjimmy as I accept the challenge of my friend and super kid Maxwell Suprenaut to help raise money for the Jimmy Fund. If I made you laugh, or at least smile, please donate today. If not, double the donation! Thank you now challenge Randy Price, Cindy Fitzgibbon, Emily Riemer and Olessa Stepanova – WCVB’s EyeOpener team – to participate and post their own #myjokeforjimmy and help stamp out cancer!
